Analysts at Morgan Stanley have announced that the European diesel market is facing a severe crisis due to supply disruptions caused by the war in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has pushed refining margins in continental Europe to record levels.
The American bank clarified in a note issued yesterday that the situation is extremely critical, noting that supply and demand models indicate that inventories in Europe are at their lowest levels in several years.
Record Levels
The bank pointed out that diesel refining margins in Northwest Europe have reached record levels, while inventories are expected to start declining from next August, reaching about 299 million barrels by November 2026, the lowest level for this time of year since at least 2015.
Despite this, the bank does not expect diesel prices in the European market to rise further, as current prices already reflect the tightness in the market. During trading on Monday, European diesel futures rose by about 3.5% to reach $1219.5 per ton, the highest level since May 20.
